I serve on the Community Cares Committee and am building its independent community and student-voice website pro bono.
How it started
KCSD Community Cares grew out of my Leadership Clinton County Class of 2026. My classmate Colleen Yost noticed that public conversation about KCSD often focused on negative stories. She wanted a place where students could share firsthand stories about their schools and show more of what was actually happening across the district.
That idea became the Community Cares Committee and the plan for an independent student and family hub. I joined the committee and took responsibility for turning the idea into a working website.
My involvement
I serve on the KCSD Community Cares Committee and contribute as both a committee member and a developer. My largest current contribution is designing and building the committee's website at no cost.
I am responsible for turning the committee's ideas into a working public platform, including the information architecture, database, account and permission system, submission workflow, moderation tools, media handling, and public pages.
What I am building
KCSD Community Cares is being built as an independent community and student-voice space connected to the Keystone Central School District community. Students and families will be able to share written stories, photos, videos, and events from across the district.
The site includes a community calendar, school directory, videos, school pages, and a plain-language view of public school-performance information. It is separate from the official district website, which remains the source for enrollment, policies, staff directories, and formal announcements.
Review before publication
Every community submission enters a private moderation queue. A trained moderator reviews the content before anything becomes public, and can approve it, decline it, or ask the contributor for changes.
The workflow also accounts for student privacy and age. Older students can contribute through their own accounts, while a parent, guardian, teacher, or other adult can submit on behalf of a younger student.
